A wide range of Mercedes Benz are fitted with electronic steering lock which are known to fail over time due to age / wear.
If your car has faults with the electronic steering lock or the lock is noisy or slow to operate - the lock should be repaired if it has failed or about to fail.
Replacement of steering lock with a new one is much more expensive than repair
Common symptoms :
- Noisy steering lock
- Key will turn in Electronic Ignition Switch but will not start
- Vehicle won’t start and steering doesn’t unlock
- No dash lights when turning key in Electronic Ignition Switch
- Electronic steering lock cannot be heard when key is inserted into the ignition switch
- Steering wheel cannot be turned, even with key inserted into ignition switch
- Fault code 9003, N26/5 ESL / ELV control unit. No feedback during unlocking. The steering is under stress.
- Fault code 9005, N26/5 ESL / ELV control unit. Communication fault.
Repair options available to suit your convenience and budget :
- Bring your vehicle and we carry out complete repair by removing the lock, repairing and then testing - $1649 incl gst
- Bring your vehicle and we fit an emulator to bypass the lock - $1199 incl gst
- Remove and send the steering lock to us for repair (with all keys and electronic ignition switch) - $799 incl gst
NOTE:
If the steering lock is completely damaged and cannot be repaired then the option is to either source a used steering lock - repair & fit or fit an emulator which will bypass the steering lock - your car will still start as normal, but the steering lock wont work
The repair work will be carried out by a qualified and experienced Mercedes Benz technician
